Location: 440 Wilchester Blvd., Houston
The Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary in West
Houston is administered by the Houston Audubon Society. The Audubon Society’s mission
is to educate the public about our precious natural resources and to encourage conservation.
Its 17.5 acres of undisturbed forest provide ample opportunities for observation
of nature. In particular, bird-watching is popular with the people who frequent
the park.
Download a bird checklist from the Audubon Society’s website and grab
your binoculars. Have you ever seen a black-crowned night heron or a yellow-bellied
flycatcher? Share the joy of seeing a rare orange-crested warbler or other unique
bird with your family!
There are many
restaurants and other activities near the
Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary so you can go bird-watching in the morning before
it gets too hot outside, go to lunch together, and enjoy one of Houston’s many other
nature parks in the afternoon. Check out some of the other links on this site for
other natural adventures. Don’t miss the chance to experience Texas wildlife completely
untouched, up close, and de-“touristed.” This special wildlife sanctuary is the
real deal. |
