Location: 8220 Willow Place North, Houston
The Aerodrome Ice Skating Complex is
a very “cool” way to spend a hot Houston afternoon. For just a small fee, you can
take to the ice and skate to all your favorite tunes…like the roller derby but much,
much colder. For ice skating enthusiasts, there is a figure skating club, as well as ice hockey teams,
that meet at the Aerodrome regularly. On one or two days a
month, there is a free ice skating lesson for kids.
The Aerodrome, in addition to
being a public skating rink, is also one of the practice locations for the Houston’s
American Hockey League team, the Aeros. Local high schools have actually been able
to start boys’ hockey teams thanks to the cooperation of the Aerodrome and other local skating facilities.
All you need to spend an afternoon at the Aerodrome Ice
Skating Complex is a willingness to try something different, socks to wear under
ice skates, and maybe a sweatshirt. Jeans or sweatpants are a must unless you want
to risk getting yourself very cold and wet if you fall.
Night skates are more adult
and teen-oriented, with funky lighting and retro favorites playing over the loudspeaker. |
