Location: 410 Bagby St., Houston
The Downtown Aquarium is a spot for family fun that defies definition. It’s an aquarium! It’s a restaurant! It’s a carnival! This
massive complex contains a 500,000-gallon aquatic paradise in which more than 200
different kinds of water creatures live. It also has a trendy bar, a restaurant,
educational exhibits, games, rides, and a gift shop. It represents the successful
redevelopment of two Houston historical buildings (The Waterworks Building and Fire
Station #1) that had fallen into disrepair. The Aquarium Adventure exhibit, the
centerpiece of the Downtown Aquarium, contains several different aquatic habitats,
including a Louisiana swamp complete
with ‘gators and a rain forest.
The Diving
Bell Ferris Wheel provides some fabulous views of Downtown Houston, and has become
a part of the skyline itself. The other rides include a carousel with unconventional
sea creatures to ride on and “Shark Voyage,” a train ride through a specially designed
acrylic tunnel (which just happens to have sharks on the other side!)
The All-Day
Adventure Pass gets you unlimited admission to the
Ferris Wheel, the Aquarium Adventure,
Shark Voyage, Carousel, and Lighthouse Dive, which is almost a 10-dollar savings
if you paid separately to ride each one once. |
