Location: Inside Memorial Park, 4501 Woodway Drive, Houston
The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is a wonderful way for families to encounter nature literally in the middle of Houston and it is located on the western border of Memorial Park, one of Houston’s premier park destinations. The arboretum is a safe sanctuary to countless species of wildlife that would be otherwise in jeopardy due to urban development. Education is the primary goal of the 155-acre arboretum.
There are many learning opportunities here, enriched by a vibrant volunteer guide program, Discovery Classes, weekend workshops, and a fantastic Nature Center building. The Discovery Room features interactive activities for kids of all ages. Here, kids can touch interesting objects, solve puzzles and explore the world of the very small through a microscope.
They will learn about the stories trees hide within their many layers, as well as the many creatures that call the forest home. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is so kid-oriented, they even offer custom themed birthday parties to groups up to fifteen. After a fun morning at the arboretum, there are numerous sightseeing opportunities nearby. To help you place the park, it is located “within spitting distance” of the Galleria, Williams Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Houston, and the adjoining Water Wall.
