Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens is a wonderful spot for the plant lover in every family. You are guaranteed to learn something about our friends the plants in a visit to Mercer, one of the two arboreta in the Houston area.

The gardens have been carefully planted and maintained with an emphasis on native plants that naturally grow well here. Plants indigenous to tropical rainforests, wetlands, and deserts are also able to grow here with the careful attention of the expert arboretum staff. You can see many rare plants here, including carnivorous species (which your kids will think is so cool!), learn about the wildflowers of Texas, and view endangered species you might never see anywhere else.

Tour Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens and you will see why countless brides use the flower gardens as a photo backdrop—make sure you bring your own camera to get some great family shots. If you come in late March, the garden will be an explosion of azaleas.

Walk along the miles of nature trails, visit the butterfly nursery, and count the fish in the koi ponds just for fun. Stop for a picnic lunch and take advantage of the air-conditioned visitors’ center for a restroom break before heading home.
