Location: 100 Concert Drive, Houston (in Hermann Park)
The Miller Outdoor Theatre’s
free summer performances are a wonderful Houston tradition enjoyed by young and
old. The theatre is a place where you can experience Ebony Opera Guild and Houston
Symphony performances, Shakespearean drama, ballet and modern dance, jazz, as well as children’s theatre. Houston’s “Theatre Under the Stars,” which produces Broadway
musicals, began as a group exclusively performing at Miller, and has gone on to
have many successful productions.
Open every year from March through the beginning
of October thanks to the warm Houston climate, the theatre is able to maintain its season of free performances through private donations and concession sales. If you want tickets to an event at Miller Outdoor Theatre, they must be picked up in advance
the day of the event due to high demand.
There is some seating on benches close
to the stage, but many people think it is more fun to bring a big picnic blanket
and sit on the green, grassy hill. You are allowed to bring your own coolers (as
long as you pick up after yourself!) The types of events are extremely diverse,
and you can access the calendar by calling the info line listed above.
