Kids and adults alike will marvel at the new Natural Encounters exhibit featuring such diverse creatures as the scarlet ibis, meerkats, and blind mole rats. The exhibit also features a living coral reef. <br /> <br /> Another favorite attraction for kids is the Children s Zoo, which has many chances for up-close-and personal interaction with domestic farm animals, as well as educational information about the different habitats of Texas. Most kids love the unique Wildlife Carousel, a giant merry-go-round with some very unusual animals to  ride. The Houston Zoo offers free admission on city holidays (MLK Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving) as a long-standing tradition and a gift to the people of Houston. <br /> <br /> I would not recommend going on a holiday unless you want to spend an hour in the parking lot before you even get inside the zoo.
