Armand
Bayou Nature Center
Location: 8500 Bay Area Blvd., Pasadena
Time: Tue-Sat 9am- 5pm, Sun Noon-5pm
The
Armand Bayou Nature Center is a unique wildlife preserve “smack dab” in the
middle of the Houston metropolitan area. It is unique because
it is not maintained with federal, state, county, or city funds, but was
purchased with private donations and continues to be maintained with private
money.
The 2,500 acres of
bayou, prairie, and forest land make it one of the largest wildlife preserves of
its kind in the country. There is much to see
and do at this nature center, all for a very affordable price.
The
special raptor exhibit is home to some impressive birds of prey, while the rest
of the park has deer, rabbits, raccoons, many kinds of birds and even bison
living in unspoiled refuge. Over 360
species call the center home!
The
Armand Bayou Nature Center also features a boardwalk through bayou land as well
as an actual late 1800’s farm site. The farm area gives visitors an idea of how
farming Texans in the early 1900s lived and worked.
If you
are looking for a more involved tour, you can take a pontoon boat down the bayou
or a canoe trip with advance reservations.
