Location: 21901 FM 762, Needville

The Brazos Bend State Park, part of the Texas State Parks system, is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Here you can get up close to hundreds of different kinds of birds, 21 types of reptiles and amphibians, and two dozen types of mammals, including white-tailed deer, raccoon, gray fox, feral hog, bobcat, rabbits and squirrels. Did we mention the hundreds of alligators? The biologists on staff think that there are around three hundred American alligators more than six-feet long living inside the park.

They can’t begin to count the smaller gators. May we suggest now that you keep a very close eye on your pets and small children if you visit Brazos Bend!

Seriously, though, alligators will go out of their way to avoid you as long as you do not bother them. Please do not bother them! Instead, call your attention to the wealth of activities at Brazos Bend State Park.

Go camping, hiking, biking, picnicking, and fishing in one of the six lakes open to fishermen. All state fishing limits apply here, although you may not need a license. Enjoy one of three interpretive programs offered to the public each weekend.
