George
Ranch Historical Park
Location: 10215 FM 762, Richmond
Time: Daily 9am-5pm
The
George Ranch Historical Park is consistently rated as one of the best
attractions for families looking for an authentic Texas experience. Rated
“Extraordinary” by the Zagat Family Fun Guide, George Ranch is a 23,000-acre
working ranch open daily to visitors from near and far.
If you
thought Texas was all about cowboys and oil, you are not entirely correct, but
you are remembering important themes from Texas history!
This
history is reflected in the exhibits at this unique park 30 minutes from
downtown Houston.
Visitors
to the George Ranch Historical Park will get to see the hard living conditions
of 1830’s living in Mexican Texas at the pioneer stock farm.
You will
watch the farmers drive a team of oxen to plant the crops, experience weaving
hand corn grinding hands-on, and help harvest crops.
The
1890’s area of the park takes you back to the glory days of the cattle drives
and the cowboy camps. Watch a real blacksmith in action and see how the well-off
lived at the beautiful Victorian-era Davis House.
To see
the 1930’s era George Ranch is to see cowboys demonstrating modern roping and
cattle sorting skills and the George ranch house in the original location with
many original furnishings.
