Old Town
Spring is a favorite destination for Houston families looking to spend a
leisurely day outdoors, especially during the fall, winter, and spring seasons,
when the weather here can be quite nice. Spring began life in
1873 as a railroad town, eventually growing to 200 inhabitants by 1910.
It had a roundhouse,
track yards, hotels, and saloons to house, feed and entertain the railroad
workers. Today, it is known for
its unique shopping opportunities. There are over 150 different merchants with a
wide variety of stores located in mainly original buildings.
“Every
time I am looking for a unique home decoration, gift, or antique, the first
place I look is Old Town Spring, and I always
find something.” is a sentiment repeated by many a north Houston resident.
In
addition to the great shopping, there is also some fantastic Texas food to be
found here. Don’t miss Puffabelly’s Restaurant or the historic Wunsche Bros.
Café, which legends say is haunted. What are not haunted are the wonderful
sausage-sauerkraut-cheese ball appetizers or the bourbon chocolate cake! If you
are lucky enough to be here during the Crawfish Festival, you will enjoy live zydeco music, carnival rides, and as much crawfish as you can eat.
